8:35p he called it a freedom
Tonight I was poking around on Genderfork, a very interesting bloggy type of place devoted to genderfuckery, and found this picture of Placebo fans waiting in line outside the Brixton.
You know that scene in the beginning of Velvet Goldmine where the glam kids are all doing their makeup in store windows and pulling faces at the BBC and there's this air of hope and freedom and glee and excitement that kind of makes your heart hurt? It reminds me of that. A lot.
♥_____♥
It also makes me miss the days when I was super androgynous. I need to rock that look again, even if I do end up looking like a cheap glam hooker.

11:21p this entry is mostly about music and me being a dink
( Ish's List of the Top Ten Albums that Made Ze Tap Hir Toes This Year. )
So Atheists Get Presents Day (or "Christmas" to you squares out there) happened four days ago! It was mostly crap for lots and lots of boring personal reasons and I did not enjoy it! At all! This is a new experience for me since Christmas is my second-favourite holiday and the fact that I had such a bad time (and am in fact having a bad time as we speak) continues to make me cranky! But fuck it, I got new shoes. They are pink.
Here is a video of a small child playing the ukulele. It will warm the cockles of your heart, unless you hate children and/or ukuleles.
This will not warm the cockles of your heart, but it is pretty important nonetheless: Malawi gay couple to face court after engagement.
And now, a Questulation: what's your favourite punk love song? Mine is "Another Girl, Another Planet" by the Only Ones.
current mood: headachey, huffah! current music: Adam Lambert- For Your Entertainment

3:05p No. 7
1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before? Got my own apartment! That was a huge deal.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I'm not sure how much more positive I am, school-wise... I'm mostly tired of school right now, and ready to move on. This year I resolve to make and keep more meaningful friendships, wherever I end up!
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Friends of the family, yes. No babies among friends yet, although the marriages have definitely started in full force, so I suppose that's the next logical step. Yikes.
4. Did anyone close to you die? No, although one of those family friends gave birth prematurely and the baby ended up dying within a few days, which was terrible. A few more from high school, too -- Lyell and Alex. Although neither were particularly close to me, it still hits close to home.
5. What countries did you visit? Mexico with Lee and the Ciancis for reading week, so awesome... and Antigua, as usual.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009? Better friendships!
7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? April 26, the day I moved out/moved in (followed by April 27, the day the desk collapsed). September 15, the day the paper was due. And, of course, October 23 :)
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Living successfully on my own and learning how to cook!
9. What was your biggest failure? I kinda failed at the whole roommate thing... but I tend not to see that as a failure, just a realisation.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Well, this one time, an entire desk collapsed on my bare feet...
11. What was the best thing you bought? Not sure, I like most of the things I purchase!
12. Where did most of your money go? Into a number of savings accounts for a) my future and b) New Zealand/France/next year in the big wide world!
13. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Moving out/in, getting the grant, and seeing Eric all the time starting in September!
14. What song will always remind you of 2009? Everything by Simon & Garfunkel... who I am currently listening to, in fact.
15. Compared to this time last year, are you:
Happier or Sadder? Absolutely happier, and hoping to get even better!
Older or wiser? Wiser, I feel like I've grown up so much after spending an entire summer alone.
Thinner or fatter? Much the same.
Richer or poorer? Richer! But saaaaavings, savings.
16. What do you wish you'd done more of? Hanging out with friends, being girly.
17. What do you wish you'd done less of? Procrastinating and making excuses.
18. How did you spend Christmas? Haha too funny... last year's year-end entry says I did laundry on Christmas day, and I'm doing that again right now :) Woke up at 7:30, played at Mass at 10 (probably my last one!), brunch at the Burkes, dinner at Grandmere's later for dinner with the famjam. Jahnna is here this year so that's kinda cool. Eric tomorrow night!!
19. Did you fall in love in 2009? More and more...
20. How many one-night stands? 0.
21. What was your favorite TV program? I only watch cooking shows, design shows, and wedding shows... ask Eric, he's exasperated ;)
22. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Actually, I've grown to like some people more than I have in the past.
23. What was the best book you read? I really enjoyed The Lovely Bones and can't wait to see the movie! I haven't read very many books otherwise.
24. What was your greatest musical discovery? Simon & Garfunkel. I've loved Paul Simon since childhood, and I'd definitely heard a number of S&G songs before, but they were literally what got me through the paper, the summer, everything. Still can't get enough of them!
25. What did you want and get? The apartment, the grant, and into Lynn's studio!
26. What did you want and not get? I guess the whole theme of this year has been that I've been really unhappy with my female friendships. I wanted those to get better, but they haven't really...
27. What was your favorite film of this year? I gotta say, it may seem lame, but Star Trek really freakin' delivered. So much that I saw it in theatres... twice. And may watch it again later today.
28. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? 21st birthday. After getting frustrated with friendless/boring Sackville, I ended up spending my birthday with the wonderful LeeAndra at her cottage on the Amherst shore, drinking Moose Light Lime and tanning on the deck. Lovely :) The next day, Mom and Dad took me out to dinner in Moncton and we spent the night with the McCluskeys in Caissie Cape. Not too shabby, in the end!
29. What was one thing that would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Movie nights with someone other than my boyfriend! (Whom I love to death, but just doesn't quite relate to chick flicks.)
30. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009? Finally, FINALLY, pretty damn good :D
31. What kept you sane? Cable television, long distance phone calls, Eric, Mom, and leisure time.
32. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Ryan Gosling, James Marsden, basically anyone pretty and talented haha.
33. What political issue stirred you the most? How dumb Canada is in pretty much every important area of life.
34. Who did you miss? (in no particular order) Krystle, Eric allll summer (/pretty much all human contact during the summer)...
35. Who was the best new person you met? Some of the music frosh this year are awesome!
36. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009: - Living alone isn't as scary as you may think. - Unless you watch 2001: A Space Odyssey alone. DO NOT do this. - 50-page papers aren't impossible!
-- blue --
